Outreach East is a non-denominational, walk-in, year-round emergency resource center dedicated to assisting individuals and families in the Davison, Goodrich, and Otisville area, as well as the eastern part of Genesee County (from Center Rd to the Lapeer County Line) in Michigan. Here’s why Outreach East matters:
- Mission and Purpose:
- Outreach East believes that every individual and family deserve access to basic essentials, regardless of their circumstances.
- Their mission is to provide year-round assistance to those in need, focusing on food and other essentials
- Community Support:
- Outreach East operates as its own 501©3 organization, which means your donations are tax-deductible.
- The center is supported by the generosity of the local community, including individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations.
- These caring hearts donate food, money, services, and time to help meet the basic needs of area families 1.
- Growth and Impact:
- Established in 1990, Outreach East started as a small food pantry in a 15 x 20 room.
- Over the years, it has expanded to over 3000 sq feet and now serves almost 7000 clients annually for food, clothing, and financial assistance.
- Outreach East also assists other agencies with referrals, fresh vegetables, and more.
- Future Goals:
- Outreach East recently acquired land in Davison and plans to build a larger facility.
- With this expansion, they aim to serve more people, widen their district, and continue their battle against hunger.
- Despite economic improvements, the struggle against food insecurity remains real, especially in school districts where a significant percentage of students qualify for free and reduced lunches 2.
